Town Board Resolution
WHEREAS, the Town of Beekman has over 2 miles of trails to provide access to the outdoors for recreation, physical activity, inspiration, education, and exploration of natural and cultural treasures; and
WHEREAS, trails provide invaluable economic, health, environmental, and transportation benefits to residents of Beekman; and
WHEREAS, the American Hiking Society founded National Trails Day in 1993 as a national event held the first Saturday of every June to raise awareness of and appreciation for trails; and
WHEREAS, National Trails Day is a nationwide day of public events, including hikes, bike and horseback rides, trail work projects, park cleanups and outdoor festivals, celebrated in communities and in public (and in all 50 states); and
WHEREAS, the Town of Beekman has created and maintained paths or trails at 3 of its parks and wishes to join National Trails Day to encourage residents to make use of these facilities for the benefit of their health; and
WHEREAS, on June 4, 2016, Beekman residents are invited to take pictures of themselves and their families and friends on one of the 3 Beekman paths or trails and post the pictures on the Beekman Rec’s National Trails Day Event page. The family with the “best” photo will win Beekman Summer 2016 T-shirts; now therefore be it
RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Beekman hereby proclaim June 4th as National Trails Day, and be it further
RESOLVED that all Beekman residents be encouraged to walk the paths and/or trails at the Recreation Park and photograph their efforts on June 4, 2016.
